Comic book lovers can enjoy some of their favorite things in life – for free – May 2 during Free Comic Book Day. Diamond Comic Distributors and The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund have teamed up with the literacy organization Every Child a Reader and The Children’s Book Council for this nationwide event full of fun ideas for kids. This feast for freebies features a dozen kid-friendly titles, including SpongeBob, a Pokémon and the Simpsons-related Bongo comic.

Participating Southern California comic book stores include Golden Apple Comics (7018 Melrose Ave., L.A.), Pulp Fiction Comics (4328 Sepulveda Blvd., Culver City), Galaxy of Comics (17306 Saticoy St., Van Nuys) and House of Secrets (1930 W. Olive Ave., Burbank).
