May Los Angeles events begin in a big way as Big Sunday Weekend takes place May 1-3. Now in its 17th year, Big Sunday ranks as one of the largest regional service events in the U.S. Last year, approximately 50,000 volunteers participated in more than 500 projects in more than 100 cities throughout California.

This year offers another wide selection of projects that people, young and old, can be part of. The list includes everything from beach cleanups to book drives and school beautifications. The Los Angeles-based Big Sunday organization also runs service programs throughout the year that are open to volunteers.
