Give Peas A Chance ***
Tom Chapin
$15, www.tomchapin.com
Tom Chapin has long been a mainstay in both the children’s and folk music worlds. The brother of Harry Chapin, he started his career in the mid-70’s and started doing children’s music in the late ‘80’s. Over the years, he has a garnered three Grammy awards, and his latest effort should be a Grammy contender, too.
Give Peas A Chance is a song-cycle about healthy food – or, as Chapin aptly subtitles the disc, “whole-grain music for free-range Earthlings.” In this one-song set, Chapin serves tasty tunes about nutrition. He riffs off of the old soul tune “Chain of Fools” on “Chain Of Food,” while “Beans Talk” imagines being a bean in the White House garden.
These catchy tunes with a message on the side are definitely “food for thought.”
