Arthur And The Invisibles 2&3: The New Minomoys Adventures***
$29.98, Fox Home Entertainment
These films are follow-ups to the not well-known 2007 Arthur and the Invisibles. Like the original movie, these sequels are directed by French filmmaker Luc Besson, who is better known for directing such adult fare as Nikita and The Fifth Element. But Besson, who is also a dad, is the author of the Arthur fantasy adventure books on which these movies are based.
A mixture of live action and animation, the films have a charming quality even if the stories (which involve an evil wizard, the sprite-like creatures from the World of the Invisibles and the humans on Earth) don’t always make sense. In fact, it is the nonsensical, magical elements that make the movies a fun time. While the evil Emperor Maltazard’s transformation in the third film might be scary to little eyes, kids 8 and older will enjoy these films’ fanciful blend of comedy and action.
