Micro Drifters ($5.99 per three-pack) is a brand-new collectible line of toys from Mattel and Disney, based on the popular movie Cars.
During a special test drive event at the Peterson Automotive Museum, the Micro Drifters raced around the “Speedways” and made it clear that these toys are not your ordinary die-cast car.
According to Chris Down, Vice President of design at Mattel, Micro Drifters are half the size of a traditional die-cast car and they play differently, since they don’t have any wheels. A ball bearing design lets the cars spin into a skid and then right themselves. Kids can put a bunch of the Drifters on the same track and the cars will drift and swarm to the finish!
There are about 40 different characters along with special-edition cars for kids to hunt for. Keep an eye out for the Gold Lighting McQueen!
