After-school care has a little more kick to it in Burbank. Burbank Pa Kua Martial Arts & Health(BPKMA&H) is offering a multifaceted program giving ages 6-13 access to multiple enrichment classes and homework help in one location starting August 15th.
BPKMA&H teaches noncompetitive martial arts to develop discipline, fitness and flexibility in children as well as help them face their fears, show respect and cultivate community. The program includes martial arts classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday, archery on Tuesday and the group’s choice of Weapons, Tai Chi, Yoga or Grappling on Thursdays. In addition to this, there is one hour of supervised homework time and one hour of free supervised open mat time.
Owner and School Master Kyle Billingsley is a 5th degree black belt with 11 years of training and nine years of teaching experience in martial arts. “I’ve been teaching children and adults, and am focusing my efforts on the after-school program instead of open classes so I have more time to work with individuals,” he says.
The cost per week is $80 plus an annual enrollment fee of $100. Siblings receive a 5-percent discount. The fees above include all equipment and shirts needed to participate and the 3 belt evaluations are also covered. The program lasts from school dismissal (including shortened days) until 6 p.m.
Transportation will be provided by hopskipdrive.com. The school will re-sell ride passes(within 5 miles or 30 minutes of BPMKMA&H) to parents at a discounted rate of $10 for one to two students coming from the same location, $8 per student for three or more. Siblings travel together for $7 each. BPKMA&H can manage children’s pick-up and drop-off with Hop Skip Drive if parents choose or a carpool cannot be found from your child’s school.
The school is located at 120 E. Alameda Ave. in Burbank. Call 818-588-4995 or visit burbankpakua.com/after-school-program for more details.
