Fans from around the world came together Aug. 14-16 to celebrate 92 years of The Walt Disney Company. The latest films from Walt Disney Studios, merchandise from Disney Consumer Products, attractions at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts – and all things Disney you can think of – were showcased at D23 Expo 2015, held at the Anaheim Convention Center.
A giant Buzz Lightyear balloon soaring outside the convention center to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the release of Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story welcomed guests. The balloon has appeared in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade six times, making it quite the photo opportunity.
The event kicked off with live performances by several Disney stars, including Olivia Holt and Sabrina Carpenter. Radio Disney was center stage at the expo, playing music and interviewing celebrity guests. Fans also enjoyed a variety of panels, presentations, sneak peeks and the type of immersive experiences that can only happen at D23.
The most exciting – and popular – event was likely “Every Story Is a Journey: The Upcoming Films of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios,” presented by John Lasseter, chief creative officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios.
Fans lined up and waited for hours to get in on the must-see presentation, where filmmakers joined Lasseter on stage to unveil never-before-seen footage from upcoming films including The Good Dinosaur (in theaters on Nov. 25); Zootopia, featuring the vocal talents of actress Ginnifer Goodwin and Grammy award-winning artist Shakira (in theaters in March); Finding Dory, with Ellen DeGeneres voicing the title character (in theaters June 17, 2016) and Moana, with voice work by actor and professional wrestler Dwayne Johnson, aka “The Rock” (in theaters Nov. 23, 2016).
Appearances by some of the films’ star voice talent and musical performances added to the excitement.
Can’t forget to mention two more highly anticipated films in the works: Toy Story 4, slated for release June 16, 2017, and Gigantic, Disney’s unique take on “Jack and the Beanstalk,” scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.
