Have you or your child ever wanted to be a part of a large, showy opera but never had the chance? Well, you have one now! Auditions are happening Dec. 8 and 10 for LA Opera's community production of Jonah and the Whale, where hundreds of people from around LA will sing, dance and perform. LA Opera joins with the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels and several other community and school groups to produce the newly commissioned community opera Jonah and the Whale, by composer Jack Perla and librettist Velina Hasu Houston. The opera will be performed for free at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on March 21 and March 22, 2014 at 7:30pm. Minimum age: 11. Community members will be a part of the Choruses of the Sea, the Mother’s Body, Shipmates, Krill and Company. As all roles incorporate dance, movement, and singing, a willingness to be creative and challenged physically are ideal. Dancers with ballet training are especially encouraged to participate.
