Events for dogs are running wild this month. On Oct. 21, Best Friends Animal Society will host its “Strut Your Mutt” fundraiser in Exposition Park. Participants can choose a short or longer walk, and humans and canines can enjoy a craft tent and the “Bobbing for Biscuits” competition. To “strut your mutt,” sign up online (for $15) or at the park (for $20). Funds raised will support BFAS and other participating rescue and animal-welfare groups. Learn more at www.strutyourmutt.org.
The Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade returns to Marina Vista Park in Long Beach Oct. 29. A pet adoption fair will be held in the park from 12:30-4:30 p.m., and a costume parade for kids and adults steps off at 2:25 p.m. Several hundred colorfully attired canines will walk the pup parade route beginning at 2:30 p.m., with awards going to dogs in a variety of categories. Dog parade registrations costs $10 online (www.hautedogs.org/howloween.html) or $20 at the event, and benefits local pet organizations. There is no fee for the human costume parade.
South Bay dog owners can also promenade their pooches at Happy Harbor Halloween Oct. 28. Costumes are not required for this pet parade that takes place along Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro, but do bring something to carry the goodies your dog will get at treat stations along the route. After the 10 a.m. parade, humans can have fun at the Halloween festivals happening from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at San Pedro’s downtown harbor and Wilmington Waterfront Park.
