Culver City, CA,
11 a.m.-5 p.m. Thur.-Sat. April 29-May 20. Curated by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Naomi Imatome-Yun, this family-friendly exhibit is an interactive art experience highlighting the story of black American culture through children’s literature. With traditional art forms, video installations and live exhibits, “Flashlight” shines light on the past, celebrates the present, and makes way for the future. According to an analysis of the Cooperative Children’s Book Center at the University of Wisconsin, only 93 out of the 3,200 children’s books published in 2013 were about black people. “Flashlight” celebrates the rarity of great stories written about the American black experience, and encourages the next generation to continue telling those stories. There will be a grand opening and book launch on April 29 form 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
