The L.A. Harbor Holiday Afloat parade lights up the water this season.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, twinkling lights are a festive part of the holiday season. Delight your kids with an outing to one of these local favorite illumination locations.

The Mission Inn Festival of Lights, 5-10:30 p.m. Nov. 28-Jan. 6, 3649 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside; www.missioninn.com/festival-of-lights-en.html. Take a photo with Santa Claus and see this display of more than 4 million dazzling lights. FREE.

Christmas Tree Lane, beginning Dec. 13, Santa Rosa Avenue between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive, Pasadena; www.christmastreelane.net. For more than 80 years, Christmas Tree Lane has been recognized as the oldest outdoor Christmas display in L.A., with more than 10,000 glimmering lights that hang along the “Mile of Christmas Trees.” FREE.

Upper Hastings Ranch Holiday Light Up, Dec. 7-Jan. 1, Upper Hastings Ranch Neighborhood, bordered by Michillinda Avenue, Sierra Madre Boulevard and Rivera Drive in Pasadena; www.upperhastingsranch.org. Since 1957, residents of the Upper Hastings Ranch Neighborhood have been decorating their homes for the Christmas season, making it a popular light-viewing destination. FREE.

One Woodland Hills neighborhood transforms itself into Candy Cane Lane.

Candy Cane Lane, Dec. 13-31, located at the intersection of Lubao and Oxnard streets in Woodland Hills; www.woodlandhillscc.net/candy_cane_lane.html. Each year, these eight blocks are transformed into Candy Cane Lane. Many houses participate in the celebration of the season with various holiday attractions. FREE.

Zoo. Visit real reindeer, meet Santa, and enjoy a spectacular light display. Admission: $8 Nov. 28-Dec. 11; $13 ages 13 and up, $11 ages 2-12 Dec. 12-Jan. 4. Free for children under 2.

L.A. Harbor Holiday Afloat Parade, 6 p.m. Dec. 6, Port of L.A. Main Channel; www.laharborholidayafloat.org. Watch boats decorated with lights for the holidays parade through the harbor. Vessels of all shapes and sizes will be participating. FREE.
