The Gumby Festival returns to Glendora Sept. 19-20 after a triumphant inaugural event last year. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the popular green character, and the festival’s Los Angeles events will salute this milestone with a special birthday celebration Sept. 19. Gumby fans attending the festival, which runs from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days at Citrus College (1000 W. Foothill Blvd.) can also have fun exploring a Gumby Museum stocked with Gumby memorabilia and items from the “Davey and Goliath” show (both were created by Art Clokey) and watching episodes of the two programs.
This year, stop-motion animation will play a larger role in the festival. There will be a student stop-motion animation contest, with the “Clokey Award” going to the grand-prize winner. The festival will feature an appearance by Maleficent director Robert Stromberg, a number of other panels and presentations, workshops for adults and children, live music, a community fair, children’s craft projects and games.
While festival admission is free, some panels, workshops and events have a fee. Check www.gumbyfest.net for details.
