A new supermarket chain is opening with several L.A. locations and a wide selection of locally grown and organic produce. Haggen, founded in the Pacific Northwest, will open 83 new stores throughout Southern California by the end of June, with 18 in L.A. County.
The company has bought and is converting various Albertsons and Vons markets into Haggen’s own brand. During a recent visit to the new Haggen location in Woodland Hills (formerly a Vons), we found the staff super-friendly and eager to let the community know about the store’s selection of organic and locally sourced products – strawberries from Oxnard, sunflowers from Carlsbad, bakery items from Abby’s Millstone Baking Company in Agoura Hills and seafood from Santa Monica Seafood.
“Our goal is to support local business,” says Cindy Braddy, district manager. “If we see great produce at a local farmers market, we will do our best to bring it to our store.”
In addition to fresh produce, Haggen deli sections feature healthy salads such as kale and butternut squash, and quinoa and edamame, plus nitrate-free lunch meats. There are also lots of gluten-free options available throughout the store. We also hear that the cinnamon rolls, baked fresh every day, are a must-try.
Haggen stores also have 3-Day Fresh Deals Sales every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with discounts on popular items across each department. Check Haggen social feeds every Friday to see what new Fresh Deals will be offered throughout each weekend @ Facebook.com/haggensouthwest, twitter.com/haggenfood, instagram.com/haggenfood.
