Jump in at the Wilmington YMCA (1127 N Avalon Blvd.) from 9a.m.-3p.m. Oct. 4 as the brand-new indoor heated pool officially opens to the public. Olympic Medalist and World Record Swimmer Jessica Hardy will be at the opening, signing autographs and conducting swim clinics for children and adults.
Wilmington YMCA, built in 1996, is a nonprofit organization that serves more than a quarter-million families each year. The organization offers programs that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y welcomes individuals of all ages, faiths and backgrounds, and never turns away membership due to the inability to pay.
As the third swimming pool in the Wilmington area, and the only indoor one, the pool will serve local youth, families and seniors by providing swim and water safety lessons and activities. Members of all abilities have the opportunity to receive careful water instruction and supervision from qualified lifeguards in a safe and caring environment. Wilmington YMCA will offer a variety of different programs and classes including youth and adult swim lessons, water aerobics, and arthritis water exercise classes. The 75-by-50-foot lap pool is 4 feet 6 inches deep and holds up to 120 people. Everyone from beginners to veteran swimmers can be active and interact with one another in the water.
