“Your Child With Special Needs Monthly” Wins Best Newsletter

Special Needs Newsletter FEB 2015“Your Child with Special Needs Monthly” recently won national recognition as the best e-newsletter for families by the Parenting Media Association (PMA) during its Editorial and Design Awards Competition, which recognizes excellence in journalism, photography and design. Professor Daryl Moen of the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism coordinated the annual contest. A panel of judges reviewed 630 entries from member publications across the country.

“The purpose of the PMA awards competition is to encourage a high level of journalistic performance and service to communities by recognizing editorial excellence and outstanding visual presentation in parenting publications,” said PMA Executive Director C. James Dowden.

The Gold Award was given to the Special Needs monthly newsletter for not only “supplying resources, tips, lists of events, and services” but also for providing “a sense of community” for parents of special needs children, according to the judges.

The newsletter launched just over a year ago to provide readers with much-needed information about resources available in Los Angeles for the special needs community.

“This newsletter is one of the ways we’re working to reach out to all parents in L.A.,” says L.A. Parent Editor, Christina Elston. “Our goal is to bring parents information that makes family life easier and events that make it more fun.”

“Your Child With Special Needs” annual print issue for families whose children have special needs has also been recognized annually for “general excellence” by the Parenting Media Association since its launch two years ago. This year’s issue will be out in April.
