The National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA) team attended E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) June 16-18 at the L.A. Convention Center. At the gaming industry’s annual trade show, throngs of eager gamers get their first peek at thousands of new titles and technologies.
We met with NAPPA favorite Nintendo, and learned about dozens of upcoming releases for the Wii and handheld 3DS.
Here are a few that we’re super excited for this fall:
The beloved Super Mario is turning 30 this year, and to celebrate, Nintendo unveiled Super Mario Maker for Wii U, where players can customize themes and create new levels by dragging and dropping elements using the Wii U GamePad controller. After creating and testing a custom level, creators can challenge friends and other gamers from around the world.
Launching along with the game are two special 30th Anniversary Mario amiibo that unleash exciting new dimensions. Both will be ready to play Sept. 11.
Woolly, Woolly Cute
Another exciting reveal from Nintendo was Yoshi’s Woolly World. The level of cuteness here is insane, and the accompanying music, soothing. Players become immersed in a virtual world made of yarn, burlap, fabric and decorative stitching. As a knitted version of Yoshi makes his way through a colorful landscape, he finds hidden treasures and builds platforms out of yarn to advance further into the game. Sounds a bit peculiar, but the moment you see it, you’ll understand why it’s generating so much buzz.
The Yoshi franchise introduces cooperative play for the first time, as players vie to collect balls of yarn that will help sustain their journey. The Mellow Mode feature takes the pace down a few notches, making this game accessible for younger players.
Three Yoshi amiibo yarn figures will also be available when the game launches Oct. 16.
New from the Animal Crossing franchise is Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. The game lets young designers can have a go at interior and exterior decorating. Compatible amiibo character cards bring additional customers – and their makeover requests – into the game.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer launches Sept. 25, and comes with a complimentary amiibo card. Purchase the bundle and get the game, one amiibo card and the NFC Reader/Writer accessory.
