Two L.A. moms have joined forces to open a boutique photography business with a twist: 30-minute portrait parties. Jennifer Howard and Kim Butan, both graduates of the UCLA Photography Certificate Program, created the fun photography concept to capture more spontaneous moments, rather than focusing on the “smile for the camera” type of images.
The idea started as a school fundraiser and has evolved into a fun business. The team schedules four to six children for back-to-back 30-minute sessions. The kids get snacks, toys and their pictures taken for 30 minutes. Each sitting includes an 8×10 print, and additional images and prints are available to order. The parents get to mingle and talk while the kids have their photos taken.
These portraits include laughing, crying, silly faces, straight faces, funny poses, and much more. The goal of the 30-minute portrait party is to allow the children to be as much themselves as possible. It is fun for little ones and adults, and just in time for holiday card season.
