Cahuenga Pass connects the Valley to the Los Angeles basin, and also connects people with entertainment. Most people are familiar with the nighttime shows at its two famous venues, the Ford Amphitheatre and the Hollywood Bowl. But families shouldn’t forget the daytime children’s programs happening during the summer.
The Hollywood Bowl (2301 N. Highland Ave., L.A.; www.hollywoodbowl.com) will again present its SummerSounds series, introducing kids to a world of music and culture through performances and art activities. Between July 7 and Aug. 1, the Bowl has put together a set of four week-long programs. The first week focuses on Irish music and dance, the next week it’s Bollywood music, followed by Nigerian music and then Latin music. Each day features 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. shows, with art workshops between the two. $15.
Across from the Bowl, and slightly up the road (at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. E.; www.fordtheatres.org), the Ford Theatres’ kid-centric Big!World!Fun! series certainly lives up to its name. This performance program offers a lineup featuring Mexican folk ballet, Brazilian music, Cambodian dance and the other sounds from around the globe at 9 a.m. Saturdays July 5-Sept. 6. Before each hour-long show, kids ages 4-12 can enjoy nature activities organized by the Natural History Museum. It’s an entertaining way to learn more about the world around us. $5 adults, free for kids.
