The National Wildlife Federation’s #SaveLACougars campaign and the Los Angeles Public Library invite members of the community to join “P-22 Celebration of Life” by attending special gatherings at 11 libraries throughout Los Angeles to watch the official event livestream.
Happening at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, the celebration will feature emotional spoken, artistic and video tributes as well as live musical performances

“Angelenos love their libraries, and they certainly love P-22. The Los Angeles Public Library is pleased to provide gathering spaces for our communities to come together in remembrance,” says City Librarian John F. Szabo. “The relationship between wildlife and humanity must be nurtured to ensure our shared future, and we are excited to welcome Angelenos to join us in paying tribute.”
Says Stacy Lieberman, President, and CEO of the Library Foundation of Los Angeles: “In our vast city, hearing tales and stories about our neighbor P-22’s bravery over the past 12 years, drew us together. Our hope is that these public celebrations help Angelenos find solace and comfort as well as inspiration to take action to advocate for wildlife protection.”
Beyond the upcoming community gatherings, the Los Angeles Public Library and Library Foundation of Los Angeles’ ALOUD series is also presenting “How P-22 United Our City: Love Letters to L.A.’s Favorite Cat” on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at Los Angeles Central Library’s Taper Auditorium. The program features California Regional Executive Director for the National Wildlife Federation’s Beth Pratt, Senior Manager of Community Science for Natural History Museum Miguel Ordeñana, Chumash and Tataviam Elder Alan Salazar, journalist Martha Groves and author Sherry Mangel-Ferber. They will share stories about this beloved animal followed by an open mic for those who wish to share remembrances.
It was P-22’s miraculous journey across two of Los Angeles’ busiest freeways and incredible story of survival against all odds that first captured the imagination of Angelenos and people from all over the world and gave life to the #SaveLACougars campaign that is now building the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing. The crossing is slated for completion in 2025.
