5-9 p.m. June 1, 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. June 2. Discovery the diversity of creative talent that calls Northeast Los Angeles its home. On Saturday evening, this free festival presents local bands and entertainment by cirque-style performers at its Boulevard Stage (Ave. 50 at York Blvd., Highland Park). The Lummis House (200 E. Avenue 43) hosts a poetry reading, curated by Suzanne Lummis, on Sunday morning (10:30 a.m.-noon) that’ll be followed by a poetry workshop (12:30-2 p.m.). The Arroyo Arts Collective’s eclectic “Butterflies and Bees: Beyond Borders” puppet parade kicks off the festivities in Sycamore Grove Park (noon-7 p.m.), where folks can enjoy live music, dance, and Shakespeare performed by the Independent Shakespeare Co. . Kids can hear Togva stories and make a shell necklace as well as create a puppet hat and watch a Teatro Arroyo puppet show. Hands-on activities will include painting, planting, and decorating a ceramic wall-hanging. There will be food trucks and community tables too. The nearby Southwest Museum will be open both days (10 a.m.-4 p.m., 234 Museum Dr. L.A.) with special exhibits. Visit the fest’s website for complete details.
