This one-day session will provide your students a chance to check out the nature-inspired programming that Biocitizen is offering this spring on Tuesdays from March 3-May 26. The goal of Field Environmental Philosophy for Homeschoolers is to introduce students to their place in all of L.A.’s varied landscapes, and to encourage them to cultivate an ethic of care based on a new awareness of being part of a larger community including the land and creatures. Each week the curriculum focuses on one of five guiding principles, which include Biotic Immersion, Permaculture, Foraging/Survival Skills, Art, and L.A. History. The carefully crafted itinerary is designed to promote and encourage students to connect to their environment, foster a sense of self and place, and of course inspire them to care about the world around them. Students each day should bring a functional backpack complete with healthy snacks and lunch; 32 oz. of water in reusable container; sunblock; supportive pair of athletic shoes for our hikes and explorations and observational tools they desire (binoculars, hand lenses, field guides). Drop off and pick up are at Bette Davis Park in Griffith Park; find details on locations online Additional information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/events/2571289012969067/.
