noon-5 p.m. Thur.-Sun. Sept. 10-Jan. 28. The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) presents this exhibit at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) as part of the landmark PST LA/LA art initiative taking place all across Southern California. Curated by Clara Kim (curator at London’s Tate Modern), “Condemned To Be Modern” brings together the work of 21 Latin American contemporary artists. It showcases an ambitious body of work produced over the last two decades that explores the effects, contradictions, and contested legacies of modernism in Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico through architecture. The show’s material might appeal to tweens and teens, although there is nothing unsuitable for younger children. On Sept. 10, an all-ages opening reception will feature art, film and performance piece on the lawn of Hollyhock House from 2-5 p.m.
