Today’s Discover the History focuses on “The Green Book,” which was inspired by the work of Victor H. Green who created a published directory listing places for Black travelers. Gloria & Solomon Herbert (principals of California-based media company, Black Meetings & Tourism) will explain the relevancy of the “Green Book” concept for today’s Black travelers. The Herberts also are the co-creators and publishers of the soon-to-be-released The New Green Book (an African American Travel Guide digital directory and Podcast Series. Also, Jo Keita of Nubian Tours, will share her experiences as the travel coordinator for Motown performers and using the Green Book in arranging travel. Ms. Keita also implemented customer service programming at United Airline addressing cultural diversity. A special preview clip from “The Green Book Chronicles,” an upcoming one-hour documentary (produced by Calvin Alexander Ramsey and Becky Wible Searles and currently in development) will be screened at this special Route 66 Discover the History event. This free discussion, which includes free gallery access, is geared for teens (ages 13-18) and adults. To RSVP, please call 310-395-2290 or email: rsvp@santamonicahistory.org
