10 a.m., 12:45 p.m. April 17-21. Disneynature returns this year with this very cool documentary that follows an Adélie penguin named Steve, who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family. From the filmmakers behind “Bears” and “Chimpanzee,” the “Penguins” team also included some of the best polar experts in the world, and they all traveled to four different locations over a three years period (nearly 900 camera days overall). Just as Steve the penguin was challenged by predators (like killer whales and leopard seals), the filmmakers were challenged by weather (temperatures dropped sometimes to below -40 degrees and winds twice topped 150 mph) to get their stunning footage. “Penguins” is the first IMAX movie from Disneynature, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and the film will be seen at select theaters besides the El Capitan. For every ticket sold opening week, Disneynature will make a donation to the Wildlife Conservation Network (WCN) to help protect penguins across the southern hemisphere.
