10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 5-April 12 (closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day). Do you know the legends of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus? These two bustling cities located on the Mediterranean bay of Aboukir one day suddenly slipped into the sea under a shroud of mystery. The cities were seemingly lost to time until Franck Goddio, a mathematician by trade and underwater archeologist at heart, delivered the discovery of a treasure trove of antiquities from these civilizations at the turn of the 21st century. Three colossal 16-foot sculptures of a pharaoh, a queen, and a god highlight this exhibit that features over 200 authentic artifacts, including precious gold coins and jewelry, bronze vessels, statues, and objects inscribed in the ancient Egyptian or Greek languages. These rare artifacts will be seen alongside ancient Egyptian artifacts from museums in Cairo and Alexandria.
