At this celebration of Japanese Girls’ Day, or Hinamatsuri, visitors can see a traditional tiered doll display (hinadan) and learn to create their own dolls and hanging decorations inspired by the festival. Members of the Urasenke School of Tea for a demonstration of the Japanese tea ceremony (chanoyu) followed by a matcha whisking workshop. All participants will have the chance to make and drink a bowl of tea, and learn about the rich cultural tradition of chanoyu. Tea ceremony times are 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.; each session is limited to 15 participants with first-come, first-serve signup. Additionally, the day will include a 1 p.m. storytime for kids, student educator-led tours, and free museum admission all day.
