On Oct. 27, Grand Park and Self-Help Graphics & Art, will present a traditional Noche de Ofrenda ceremony (7-9 p.m.) honoring the dead. The evening will feature a prayer led by the local indigenous community, along with performances by Los Angeles-based poets and musicians, and traditional dancers representing the Aztecan, Oaxacan and Michoacán traditions. There will also be the official unveiling of Grand Park’s Día de los Muertos altars and art installations developed by local artists and community groups. The 50 altars and installations, which will remain in the park through Nov. 4, now only will celebrate lost loved ones but also reflect this year’s theme: “Looking to the Past to Build the Future.” There will be free lunchtime tours that will highlight the artwork and discuss the traditions of the holiday.
