This vibrant island-style collaboration of music and dance showcases the talents of the multi-Grammy Award winning musician Daniel Ho and acclaimed kumu hula, Keali‘i Ceballos. Based on their original musical, “Pineapple Mango,” the family-focused performance shares Hawaiian and English language songs and the traditions of hula dance. Daniel, Keali‘i and friends will instill a sense of their homeland as they share stories of Hawai‘i, ‘ohana (family) and food. Stick around after the show for a noon-time program that is inspired by both the Hawaiian ‘Ohana concert and the Broad Stage’s seasonal theme of “Home”. Daniel Ho will teach you some basic chords and techniques to play a song from the show (ukuleles will be provided while supplies last). Artist Heidi Kawamoto will show you how to create your own Hawaiian lei with real flower petals. Enjoy dancers from Santa Monica College’s Global Motion as they perform a hula or two on the plaza and also check out the community and cultural resource booths.
