10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 1-June 3. The lowrider car is an icon symbol of both Chicano and Southern California culture. This exhibit examines the lowrider from many angles – in paintings, sculptures, photography, and the vehicles themselves. Displayed vehicles include “Our Family Car” (a 1950 Chevrolet Sedan painted by legendary artist Gilbert “Magu” Luján) and “El Rey” (a 1963 Chevrolet Impala by Albert De Alba Sr.). Also featured are such artists as El Moisés, Estevan Oriol, Germs a.k.a. Jaime Zacarias and Luis Tapia, who have have reworked and re-imagined the lowrider in their works.
