The Hollywood Forever Cemetery certainly is an appropriate place for a Day of the Dead celebration. The Monarch Butterfly is the guiding theme for this year’s event, which offers a traditional procession with customary Aztec blessings and regional musical-dance group dedications as well as over 100 altars created by community members to their ancestors and loved ones. There will be hundreds of Aztec Ritual Dancers in full costume, along with five stages featuring music (including headliner Café Tacvba) and theatrical performances. Now in its 20th year, the colorful festival also has a children’s arts project area, food and arts & crafts vendors, and an art exhibit. Dia de Los Muertos attire is strongly encouraged; in fact, there will be a costume contest. Getting tickets in advance is highly recommended.
