This January 1st festival doubles up on your New Year’s revelry. Besides celebrating Jan. 1, it also celebrating the Lunar New Year. Hosted by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California (JCCSC), this festival opens with the pounding beats of taiko drums, and shishimai (lion dancers) take the stage on the first level of the Weller Court Shopping Center. Activities will include calligraphy demonstrations, kimono and Harajuku-style fashion shows, anime booths, Japanese street food and a demonstration, by Nisei Week Queen and her Court, on how mochi is traditionally made This year’s will demonstrate how mochi is traditionally made.
