Walk for freedom, celebrate with family. Summer is on the way and it’s time to get outside and get moving!Juneteenth Freedom Walk is a 2-part journey and jamboree for people of all ages in support of Lower Depth Theatre. Teach your children about the importance of Juneteenth in African American history while enjoying fresh air and exercise. Then celebrate African American heritage and freedom at a virtual jamboree featuring a traditional African musical performance, dance party, and more!
Walking period: June 13-19
Walk, hike, or jog a 3k at a time and place that works best for your family’s busy schedule. Before your journey begins, download & listen to an exclusive Juneteenth audio companion courtesy of Lower Depth Theatre. Don’t worry parents, there’s one for kids too!
After finishing your walk, snap a selfie and send it to Lower Depth Theatre to be featured on a slideshow at the live party on June 19. Share your photo or video on social media, tag Lower Depth (@ldte), and use the hashtag #JuneteenthFreedomWalk to enter a giveaway to win a special Juneteenth prize.
After completing your walk, we’ll gather together for a virtual Juneteenth jamboree on June 19 at 6 p.m. Featuring a traditional African dance performance & dance lessons from Le Ballet Dembaya, an exclusive first look at our 2021-2022 season, and a dance party!
Families who purchase VIP packages receive a children’s book about Juneteenth or African American history & heritage and an activity packet for children with a word search, coloring pages, crayons, and Juneteenth fact page. The Juneteenth VIP gift basket also includes a cocktail package for the parents from local L.A. restaurant, Mister O’s.
Then the whole family is invited to join the jamboree early at 5:30 p.m. and watch a musical performance from special guest drummer Bradley Simmons using his impressive African drum collection.
