Before getting your Christmas present, you can receive a gift from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors – a free concert showcasing more than 20 L.A.-based music ensembles, choirs and dance companies! Co-hosted by the internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Suzanna Guzmán and actress Marissa Ramirez (“Blue Bloods”), this 60th annual three-hour multicultural “community talent show” includes Hawaiian songs and dance from Hālau Keali’i o Nālani & the Daniel Ho Trio; gospel music by Greater LA Cathedral Choir; folklorico dancing by Pacifico Dance Company, Latin folk music from Cuñao, Korean dance from Jung Im Lee Academy, and the dancers and drummers of African Soul International. This year’s show also presents several special performances: the all-female Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea playing with their “brother” band Mariachi Espectacular; Cuban jazz trumpet player Arturo Sandoval and his band doing holiday song medley; and Jewish cultural revival band Mostly Kosher collaborating with the Urban Voices Project, a choir made up of men and women surviving homelessness on Skid Row. While it is great to see the show live, you can also watch live broadcast on PBS SoCal from 3-6 p.m. (with rebroadcasts happening on PBS SoCal tonight and on KCET on Dec. 25).
