times vary May 4-5. This year, the LAPFF has several family-centric programs. On May 4, “Itsy Bitsy Shorts” showcases a selection of short films geared for little film-goers (ages 2-5) that will screen at the Japanese American National Museum. Kids will also explore movie magic through interactive activities, including the Echo Park Film Center’s Filmmobile, a school bus transformed into a mobile media classroom. Suggested for ages 2-5 years old. Also on the 4th is “From Vision to Reel: Finding Home.” These film, screening at the Downtown Independent Cinema (251 S. Main St.) look at the Asian and Asian American experience from the point of view of young, emerging filmmakers, and the films might appeal to older youths. May 5 features “Kids Shorts (Not the Kind You Wear)” at the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (244 San Pedro St.). Coinciding with the JACCC’s Fiesta Matsuri (which combines Japanese & Mexican Children’s Day celebrations), this program shows a set of inspiring family-friendly films as well as offering workshops and activities designed for children of all ages. All of these programs are free. Find more details at festival.vcmedia.org/2019/.
