“Duet of Remembrance” is a tw0-part concert series that commemorates the Holocaust and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camps. The New West Symphony opens the series with “Dreams,” a concert of uplifting music that acted as a beacon of hope during the darkest of times. Selections include “Brundibár” (Czech for “bumblebee”) composed by Hans Krása and Felix Mendelssohn’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The symphony will be joined by the Los Robles Children’s Choir for “Brundibár,” a piece that encourages faith in humankind although it was originally written for a 1938 children’s opera competition and performed by kids in the Theresienstadt concentration camp. The performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be interspersed with dialog from Shakespeare. “Dreams” will be performed at the Kavli Theater on Feb. 28 and at Camarillo’s Rancho Campana Performing Arts Center on March 1 at 3 p.m. The second concert, “Violins of Hope,” will be performed at the Kavli on April 18 and Rancho Campana on April 19. Due to its mature subject matter, these concerts are not recommended for young children.
