3 p.m. Jan. 25, Feb. 2, 7 p.m. Feb. 1. Pacific Opera Project (POP) continues to reveal its artistically and musically boundary-pushing sensibilities as they are opening their 10th season with the first-ever pairing of two one-act opera composed by two great composers: Giacomo Puccini and Maurice Ravel. Puccini’s only comic opera, “Gianni Schicchi” tells the tale of the once rich and influential Donati family, who have fallen on hard times. Ravel’s “L’enfant et les Sortilèges (The Child and the Spells)” concerns a unruly young boy who receives a lesson from his toys, pets, and furniture about misbehaving. POP has “linked” these two works by having the youngest member of the Donati family become the mischievous boy in Ravel’s self-described “”Lyric Fantasy.” Performed by a large cast and orchestra, this family-friendly production, which runs around 2 hours and 15 minutes, will be sung in Italian and French with projected supertitles.
