9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 12, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 13. This weekend, the Second Home Serpentine Pavilion is the site for this showcase of local non-profit organizations that use dance, poetry, art and education to transform people’s lives in L.A. On Saturday, from 9-10:30 a.m., Pando Populus presents a lineup of creative writers, designers, scientists and thinkers who will discus sustainability issues and develop ideas to create a more environmentally conscious, economically secure and socially just future. From 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m., Get Lit showcase an inspiring group of its young poets performing spoken word pieces representing their love letters to L.A. At 2:30-5 p.m., Freedom & Fashion, an organization that uses fashion and beauty to empower youth overcoming trafficking, homelessness, and other injustices, host an event ($30 donation) featuring special performances, story-telling, fashion, and food entirely inspired by its students (who will be attending too). On Sunday, folks can join the Assistance League (10 a.m.-noon) in making no-sew blankets that will be given to foster youth served by its Foster Children’s Resource Center. From 1-2 p.m., the Covenant House California Band (aka CHC Band) will perform songs they’ve worked on as part of Covenant House California’s onsite music program for homeless and trafficked youth (ages 18-24). The weekend concludes with the Infinite Flow Dance Company’s all-ages, all-inclusive dance party ($30, with proceeds benefiting the dance troupe’s school assembly initiative.
