Steven Latham is the creator and producer of Shelter Me, an award-winning PBS series that tells uplifting stories about homeless pets and the people who help them. The goal of this project is to increase pet adoption by telling inspiring stories. In this special Animal Matters session, Latham will be discussing and showing videos from the series. The several short clips from upcoming episodes will include a shelter that has partnered with an Alzheimer’s facility to help foster orphaned kittens; a prison program that trains shelter dogs to become service animals; a pop artist that gives free concerts at animal shelters; a group that builds free fences for dogs that are tied up outside all day; shelter dogs that are trained to do search-and-rescue, and a group that renovates shelters which helps increase adoption and boost morale for employees. He will also screen footage from a community-wide event being filmed for Shelter Me called “Seen=Saved,” which is about photographers who will be taking pictures of every pet available at the seven L.A. County Animal Shelters on one day and sharing the profiles on social media.
