Organized by the Fowler, this exhibit holds over 225 works of art, including all sorts of blades and currencies, wood sculptures studded with iron, musical instruments and elaborate body adornments. It reveals the histories of invention and technical sophistication that led African blacksmiths to transform one of Earth’s most core natural resources into objects that served to alter human civilization, both practically and symbolically.
