Participate in three days of free public festivities in honor of the re-opening of The Music Center Plaza after its 20-month renovation with t throughout the Labor Day weekend. On Friday night, there’s an extra-long Dance DTLA as it returns “home” to the Plaza to celebrate its grand finale for this summer along with the Plaza’s official grand re-opening. Cumbia will be the dance of the evening (and there will be lessons for beginners too). Saturday’s festivities start in Grand Park with singing, music, dance and visual art commemorating the re-opening of the “Plaza for All Celebration.” At 5 p.m., a public procession (featuring performers and members of the many communities that comprise L.A. County’s five districts) will go from the park to the plaza. The L.A. Master Chorale hosts a super-big Big Sing community sing-along beginning around 6 p.m. You can join thousands of your fellow Angelenos in belting out some popular tunes. Local food trucks will be on-site too. Sunday afternoon, the Music Center hosts a Splish Splash Plaza Bash, turning the Plaza into a giant backyard party filled with free games and activities, and even splashing in The Music Center fountain. Abernethy’s first five emerging chefs will be on hand too, preparing and selling their individual versions of backyard bites and treats.
