Coinciding with the JANM’s current exhibit, “Transcendients: Heroes at Borders,” this free one-day event explores the visible and invisible borders of “Transcendients,” a term that reflects the uncertain transience and hopeful transcendence of an immigrant’s experience. It will celebrate of the “heroes” of “Transcendients” and their work with a day of thought-provoking discussions, conversations, music, dance, art, and activities. A border-crossing dance and music performance will feature FandangObon, El Santo Golpe, and East LA Taiko, while interactive workshops include mini-zines with Lupe Limon Corrales and a communal weaving with Marianne Sadowski.
