For the second year in a row, FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) and CVS Pharmacy are uniting for Halloween to bring awareness about food allergies through their Teal Pumpkin Project. Now, local CVS stores will carry Teal Pumpkin products to ensure a safe Halloween.
In the U.S., 1 in 13 children have a deadly food allergy. To promote inclusivity during the holiday, Teal Pumpkin Project encourages households to use teal pumpkins as a sign that they have food allergy-friendly treats or non-food treats.
Through CVS, 7,000 stores, including 802 locations in California, and online, will have Teal Pumpkin certified products. Over 100 non-food treats like toys and glow sticks, food-allergy friendly items, and teal pumpkins for the house or trick-or-treaters will be available online or in-store. Many of these items will be under $5.
In addition, FARE made an interactive map consisting of Teal Pumpkin events, safety tips while trick-or-treating, non-food treat ideas, and locations to pickup free Teal Pumpkin resources. The map will go live on Oct. 1.
“We are proud to partner with FARE once again this Halloween season and into next year to make holidays safer by offering our shoppers even more food allergy-friendly options for their families,” says Brian Eason, Vice President of General Merchandise and Consumables, CVS Health.
“Last year was such a great success and, this year, together, we will reach even more families across the nation, spreading awareness about food allergies and creating a sense of belonging during cherished celebrations. By combining our efforts, we will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the 85 million Americans who are affected by food allergies and intolerances,” added Sung Poblete, RN, PhD, CEO of FARE.
This partnership will continue after Halloween, through Valentines Day 2024 and throughout the spring.
