If you’re looking for a wonderful holiday family outing, I have just the place – the Hollywood Pantages Theatre to see the Disney Theatrical Production of “Frozen,” with performances through Feb. 2.
TheFrozen North American tour stars Caroline Bowman and Caroline Innerbichler as Elsa and Anna, sisters with a mysterious family secret.
My daughter and I so enjoyed the show Friday night, and we left the theater singing the songs, which we know well from the Oscar-winning movie. What we loved about the theatrical production was that we not only experienced the songs we know and love, including “Let it Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman,” but also new and heartwarming songs such as “I Can’t Lose You.”
The set designs and special effects were spectacular. The creative team wowed the audience with the enchanting creation of Elsa’s ice castle and with lights and sounds that made us feel like ice was forming all around us. Yes, you will even see the magical transformation of Elsa’s clothes into her gorgeous and sparkling blue dress live on stage. It is Disney magic at its best.
For me, a mom of two daughters, this story of two sisters loving and protecting each other at all costs is especially poignant. The music and lyrics by wife-husband duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are not only catchy, but so full of heart and love. Their latest song, “I Can’t Lose You,” is a beautiful and touching moment between these two sisters.
There are many funny scenes throughout the production as well. Anna, the charming younger sister, has many hilarious moments as she manages her lonely life in the castle, falls in love and then sets off to find her sister. Duke Weselton will also have you laughing out loud.
We were especially happy to see Olaf, our favorite snowman who loves warm hugs and dreams about summer, come to life thanks to puppet designer Michael Curry and actor F. Michael Haynie.
“Frozen” celebrates the love of family, of two sisters and their unbreakable bond. The moral of this enchanting story is “The act of true love will thaw a frozen heart,” and we know you will leave this production with your heart full of love and joy.
Recommended for ages 6 and up.
