Halloween and comic books are good at offering a good scare, so it is not surprising that there is a Halloween-themed comic book day. Comic shops across the country will celebrate the third annual Halloween ComicFest Oct. 25. Locally, Golden Apple, Meltdown Comics, Things From Another World and Earth 2 Comics are among stores scheduled to participate.

Organized by Diamond Comic Distributors, the day will offer 19 new, and free, titles (12 full-length comics and seven mini-comics) with a Halloween or horror theme. Among the more kid-friendly comics this year are Scooby Doo Team-Up with Batman #1, My Little Pony and Betty and Veronica. It’s a fun way to celebrate the holiday and feed your love of (or grow an interest in) comics.

Halloween ComicFest Day also marks the start of “The Greatest Halloween Costume Contest Ever!” To enter this all-ages competition, you just have to dress up in your finest costume and be photographed holding one of this year’s 19 comics. Winners will get shopping sprees at their local comic shops.

Visit www.halloweencomicfest.com for more details on both the day and the contest.
