Thanks to record rainfall over the holidays, plus more rainstorms in February, some spectacular blooms are in our not-so-distant future. Think purple lupines, baby blue eyes, golden California Poppies and bright yellow wild mustard blanketing hills, trails and fields throughout L.A. and the rest of Southern California. If you’re looking to chase spring’s blooms with your family, we’ve rounded up some of the best fields, farms and festivals to find flowers in L.A. and beyond.

Flower Festivals
Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival
The desert is a prime flower spotting destination in the early weeks of spring. On March 7 Friends of the Desert Mountains hosts its annual Coachella Valley Wildflower Festival at Desert Civic Center Park. From 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. enjoy native plants, a youth art contest, arts and crafts, food trucks, local artisans, information booths and more. FREE.
Sierra Madre Wistaria Festival
Join the Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce on March 28 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. for the Sierra Madre Wistaria Festival, celebrating the flowering hanging vine. The community festival features an arts and crafts marketplace, food vendors, auto show, family-friendly activities, live music, plus The Guinness Book of World Records Wistaria Vine Tour. Free entry to the festival. Tickets are $7.50-$15 for shuttle to access the vine tour, which is on a private property.
California Poppy Festival
The City of Lancaster’s annual festival returns to the AV Fair & Event Center April 17-19. The California Poppy Festival honors our state flower with live entertainment, rides, live animal exhibits, food, beer garden and more. Lancaster is home to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve where poppies and other wildflowers bloom from around mid-February through May. $10-$13.
Clarkia Flower Festival
The second annual Clarkia Flower Festival returns to UCLA Mathias Botanical Garden on May 16 10 a.m.-4p.m. to celebrate the California native wildflower known for its many vibrant shades of pink and purple. FREE.
Lavender Festival
At the tail end of spring catch the 22nd Annual Lavender Festival at 123 Farms in Cherry Valley. From June 5-July 19 guests can shop the lavender-themed marketplace, ride a wagon tour of the grounds or stroll through 20 acres of lavender, taste lavender-inspired food and drinks and listen to live music every night. Plus, the farm will be illuminated each night by 100,000 lights. $8-$16.
Lompoc Flower Festival
Celebrate Lompoc Valley’s flower growing heritage at the 73rd annual Lompoc Flower Festival June 25-28 with a parade, carnival, arts and crafts, vendors, food, live entertainment and more. $5-$7; Free for kids ages 5 and under.
Flower Fields
Lompoc Flower Fields
About one hour up the coast from Santa Barbara, the Lompoc Flower Fields are known for their colorful varieties such as Delphinium, Larkspur, Stock and more. From around mid-April through early June visitors can catch these vibrant blooms in the fields or in the wild. Visit Explore Lompoc’s guide to map out your sightseeing route.
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch
From March 1- May 10, visit North San Diego County’s The Flower Fields to experience its stunning red, orange, yellow, pink and purple Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers. Though these colorful blossoms are the main event, guests can also walk through the Sweet Pea Maze, a fragrant floral maze, and pick blueberries. New this year is a weekly pop-up series, featuring local vendors, an enhanced Butterfly Encounter experience with a new greenhouse housing hundreds of butterflies and St. Patrick’s Day Fields of Luck 5K Debut.
Bloomtown Flower Co.
L.A. is full of hidden gems, including Bloomtown Flower Co., an urban farm in Covina specializing in cut flowers. On April 11 they open their doors to the community for their annual Open Farm Day. Take a self-guided tour, make your own bouquet, browse the plant sale and enjoy that fresh, spring air with families and friends. $10; free for kids ages 12 and under.
Rose Lane Farms
Another L.A. gem is Rose Lane Farms, the city’s “one and only garden rose farm.” Located in North Hollywood and open since 1995, Rose Lane Farms opens to the public in April Thursdays and Saturdays.
