California is home to some of the best theme parks, from Disneyland to SeaWorld to Knott’s Berry Farm and more. Now we can add another to the list: Sesame Place San Diego. SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and Sesame Workshop recently announced the West Coast’s first Sesame Place theme park based entirely on the award-winning show “Sesame Street” will open to the public on March 26 in Chula Vista.
The 17-acre park will be open year-round, with 18 Sesame Street-themed rides, including a kid-friendly rollercoaster, and water attractions like the 500,000-gallon wave pool, one of the largest in Southern California. “This is an exciting milestone for our company, as this is the second Sesame Place in the United States and the first new theme park we’ve opened since 2013. We are thrilled to debut this new park and add a premiere tourist destination to California that is so appealing to families,” said Marc Swanson, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment CEO. Sesame Place has also partnered with The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards to be designated as a Certified Autism Center, offering specialized services to guests with autism and other special needs.
Fun for families and kids of all ages, the new theme park will feature a musical play area, an interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood complete with the iconic 123 stoop, daily live character shows, award-winning parades, rides, heated pools and water slides. The Sesame Street Neighborhood will feature interactive offerings like Elmo’s Window, where Elmo’s bedroom window comes to live as guests play, dance and sing with Elmo and friends, and Bike Shop Tricycle Challenge, a motion-sensing digital game where kids use their body to control a virtual tricycle.
Throughout the park guests will find a variety of family-friendly rides and attractions, each designed with a character in mind. Big Bird will greet fans at the Sunny Day Carousel, a classic ride perfect for all ages. The Count’s Splash Castle, a multi-level, interactive water play attraction features a 500-gallon water bucket drop. Kids can ride Super Grover’s Box Car Derby, a family-friendly roller coaster full of fun hills and mini-dives. The park will also host seasonal events, like The Count’s Halloween Spooktacular and A Very Furry Christmas.
Exclusive pre-opening Season Pass pricing, starting at $129 per year, is available now for unlimited visits to Sesame Place San Diego from March 26, 2022 to January 2, 2023. Pass holders will also get to celebrate the park opening first, with exclusive grand opening events, character meet-and-greets, photo opportunities, collector items and more.
