In her effort to reduce textile waste and save money for her own family, without sacrificing style, L.A. mom Kimberly Lau started to source quality secondhand kids’ clothes. Her personal passion project eventually turned into thriving local business, Project ReWear, a pre-loved kids’ clothing boutique.
Featuring quality brands like Dickies, Patagonia, Carhart and more, the curated budget-friendly store opened its brick-and-mortar boutique at the end of 2024 in Thousand Oaks. As a single mom of two boys, Kimberly wanted to create a more sustainable, affordable and fashionable shopping experience for all ages. “The grand opening of Project ReWear was everything we hoped it would be and more – a joyful celebration of sustainability, community, and style,” said Kim. “From the ribbon cutting with Councilmember Bob Engler to kids enjoying face painting and families exploring our curated preloved collection, the energy was incredible. We saved 165 pounds of clothing from the landfill, celebrated the unique stories behind each piece, and even helped a sweet rescue pup, Molly, find her forever home. It was a day filled with smiles, meaningful connections, and proof that sustainable fashion can be stylish, fun, and impactful.”
Families can shop Project ReWear online or in person at the Thousand Oaks location. “The Project ReWear Boutique is primarily geared towards infants to teens,” Kim explains, “with a curated selection of women’s wear as well. We’re proud to keep up with the latest trends and brands that kids are loving these days, ensuring there’s something for everyone—from toddlers just starting to dress themselves to teens looking to express their unique style. Whether it’s trendy sneakers, playful outfits, or statement accessories, we strive to make sustainable fashion exciting and accessible for all ages!”
