On April 7, the No. 29 Communications hosted its virtual parenting breakfast, “Parenting in a Pandemic,” convening parents to talk about balancing sleep, nutrition, mental health and sustainability amidst a pandemic.
Having surpassed the one year mark of COVID-19, the panel opened a nurturing space for parents to ask the questions that have been top of mind and also reflect on the journey of the past year. The panelists covered a variety of topics: Dr. Harvey Karp of Happiest Baby touched upon the prevalence of postpartum depression and sleep solutions— among them, the smart bassinet SNOO; Liz Turrigiano of Esembly provided tips and tricks on bridging parenting and sustainability while sharing the company’s latest resource, Arrival.
Happy Family Organics’ Happy Baby Expert Dr. Leesha, M.D., MPH, walked attendees through the mental health impact of the pandemic and how parents can take care of themselves and their children simultaneously. Yolanda Owens elaborated on advocating for Black women particularly when it comes to breastfeeding and pumping (she is the co-founder of Black Lactation Circle).Â
The virtual event ended with a short meditation led by Jenn Tardif, Founder of 3rd Ritual.Â
