As a thank you to women facing parenting at a particularly tough time, actress, author and expecting mother Molly Sims will host an Operation Shower group baby shower for 40 military moms-to-be whose spouses are currently deployed – a few of whom are active-duty military themselves. The event will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.
Hosted by Northern Trust and the Northern Trust Open, the “Dream a Little Dream” themed event will be sponsored by baby bedding company Carousel Designs, with support from the Riviera Country Club and baby-product company 4moms. Moms-to-be will enjoy lunch (donated by Whole Foods Santa Monica), and receive Operation Shower’s signature “Shower in a Box,” a gift set of products for mothers and babies.
The event is part of the PGA TOUR’s Birdies for the Brave military outreach initiative originally created by golfers Phil and Amy Mickelson, which has raised more than $15 million for military home-front charities that support wounded warriors, veterans and military families. The White House has named Birdies for the Brave one of the top 20 charities in the U.S. that supports military families.
“As a mom, I know how difficult pregnancy can be in the best of circumstances, and I can’t imagine how challenging it must be to experience pregnancy without your spouse by your side,” says Sims. “I am honored to have the opportunity to host the Operation Shower event and thank these amazing women for everything they do at home that enables their spouses to proudly serve our country.”
