Mint Condition
A couple months ago, I said goodbye to my car of 10+ years. Before I let her go, I wanted to make sure she was presentable for her new owners. It had been awhile since I had ridden in the back seat, and to my surprise, it was a frightening mess riddled with shoe prints, pencil and pen marks, residue from a family of stowaway gummy bears and other unidentifiable markings.
I turned to interior-exterior spray cleaner Meguiar’s Ultimate Protectant (www.meguiarsdirect.com, $10.99) and hoped for a miracle. With a quick spritz and a wipe using Meguiar’s Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel (three for $7.99), years of wear and tear disappeared and the gummy bear family hit the road.
Meguiar’s Ultimate Protectant is safe to use on LCD screens; rubber, vinyl and plastic surfaces; exterior trim, moldings and tires and offers UV protection.
I now have a new set of wheels and I’ve been a bit neurotic about the upkeep. Quik Interior Detail Wipes ($6.99) are always within reach, keeping my new ride shiny and clean.
Take a Listen
Great for traveling, Etymotic’s ETY Kids Earphones (www.etymotic.com, $39, Ages 4+) are made just for kids. They come in black, pink and yellow and come with a handy pouch for safe keeping. They fit snuggly to seal the ear canal, so the sound quality is good and kids won’t feel the need to increase the volume (though built-in volume control makes sure they can’t exceed safe levels).
They do a great job blocking background noise, so be prepared to wave your hands like crazy to get your child’s attention. And even if your kids are super quiet and occupied, remember that the recommended listening limit is four hours or less per day.
That’s Smarts!
Owies aren’t so bad when you’ve got someone to cuddle up to. Thermal-Aid Zoo and Thermal-Aid Zoo Minis (www.thermalaidproducts.com, $14.95 and $7.99 for Minis) are adorable animal friends that double as heating pads or cold packs. Pop them into a microwave for seconds for warmth or store them in the freezer for cool relief that’s more comfy than an ice pack.
The seven cuddly animal characters are filled with specially milled de-germinated corn that holds the heat or chill and keeps mold and fungus away.

Chalk It Up
Don’t you love the clean, bright look of restaurant menus penned in colored chalk on white boards or blackboards? Now you can get that same look with Chalk Ink Markers (Prices vary, www.chalkink.com, for the entire family), a must-have craft essential.
Traditional chalk is dusty and hard to read. These mess-free markers go on smoothly with the look of bright-colored chalk. They’re available in a variety of colors and tip widths, and are non-toxic and food safe. Use them on non-porous surfaces including chalk or dry-erase boards, mirrors, windows, countertops and tile.
Once dried, the ink won’t smear or smudge. When you’re ready to erase, just spritz water or window cleaner on a cloth and wipe away.

In the Bag
I absolutely love Bumkins, an eco-conscious company that has a wide variety of products that are great for the environment while remaining hip, fashionable and relevant.
Their line includes bibs, smocks, mealtime necessities, cloth diaper systems (they are easier to use than you think) and so much more, plus a wonderful alternative to lunch baggies.
If you handle the lunch packing duty like I do in my household, you know what it’s like to blow through boxes of baggies each month. Bumkins has a smart solution in their reusable sandwich and snack-sized bags that come in a variety of cute prints, including DC Comics, Dr. Seuss and Disney ($6.95 for two small snack bags and $4.95 for one large snack bag).
The bags are easy to clean – hand wash or throw them in the dishwasher or washing machine — and re-use for lunches or storing little treasures.
Also check out their other products including travel, laundry, wet and dry bags at www.bumkins.com and make plastic disposable bags a thing of the past.
Noo in Town
When it comes to yogurt, there’s a new game in town!
noosa yoghurt is quite possibly the creamiest and most flavorful yogurt I’ve ever had! The secret to noosa is that it’s made in small batches on a farm in Bellevue, Colorado using only the best ingredients: natural whole milk, fresh fruit purees and clover alfalfa honey. Its thick, smooth consistency is so delish that this healthy treat can easily pass as dessert anytime.
There are a ton of flavors to choose from including the seasonal pumpkin, blood orange and cranberry apple and are available at most local and independent stores. The price is about $2.39 for an 8 oz. cup.
Visit www.noosayoghurt.com for the entire story and where to find noosa near you.

Breathe Easier
If you are an allergy sufferer like me, you’ll surely appreciate the Dyson Pure Cool (www.dyson.com, $499.99), which removes 99.95% of harmful airborne particles by trapping them in a high-efficiency HEPA filter. In other words, the gunk we breathe that makes us sick is drawn in and trapped in the ultra-efficient filter. Those with allergen sensitivities seem to notice the difference right away. The Dyson Pure Cool also eliminates odors and potentially toxic fumes from paint or nail polish and the filter doesn’t have to be changed for the first six months, even with continuous use.
Just like Dyson’s fans, this state-of-the-art air purifier is super quiet, has a sleek design and comes with a handy remote control with timer. Adjust the fan to a higher setting in warmer months and get cool air instantly.

A Bug’s Life
In 1965, entomologist Carlos White wanted to give children a hands-on introduction to insect metamorphosis, entomology and life-cycle learning. After much research and experimentation, he founded Insect Lore in 1969 and created what would be his “flagship product,” Original Butterfly Garden With Live Cup of Caterpillars ($24.95, www.insectlore.com, Ages 4+ with adult supervision).
Our kit arrived in the mail complete with a mesh habitat, detailed instructions, a nectar dropper and a plastic jar filled with caterpillar food and five, wiggly Painted Lady Caterpillars.
Within one week the Painted Lady Caterpillars (with the exception of Slow Poke Joe, who decided to stay behind and eat for two more days) transformed into chrysalides that hung from the top of the jar. Eventually, Slow Poke Joe decided to form his chrysalides, at which time we transferred all of our resting friends to their mesh habitat and waited for them to emerge.
After about seven days, four beautiful butterflies emerged, stretching their wings and preparing for flight. We nourished them with sugar water and fresh fruit and after three days, we set our Painted Lady Butterflies free. As for Slow Poke Joe, he eventually emerged and joined his winged siblings a few days later.
This was such an exciting activity and we were grateful to witness the life cycle of these beautiful creatures.
Insect Lore’s other products include ladybug, ant and praying mantis kits, as well as bug catchers, keepers, viewers and more.

Sparkle and Shine
We love these fizzy masks! Ling Skincare’s SparkLING Makeover Mask (www.lingskincare.com, $80 for a box of four masks) uses carboxy technology, drawing oxygen to the surface of the skin, resulting in a clear, firm and youthful appearance. Also in the mask is rose petal extract, which is full of anti-oxidants, adding to the mask’s anti-aging properties.
Individually packaged for hassle-free application and leaves the skin feeling soft, smooth and firm.
The Nu You
If gravity is working against you (and if you’re over 40 like me, you’ll know what I’m talking about) you’ve got to try the NuFACE mini facial toning device (www.mynuface.com, $199, Available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sephora.com and myNuFACE.com), a non-invasive solution for anti-aging.
NuFACE mini is FDA-approved and actually “lifts” large surfaces of the face including the cheeks and jowls, by using soft wave microcurrent technology that stimulates skin to appear firm and youthful. I have to admit … it took me awhile to muster up the courage to test this product. Anything that mentions any type “current” scares me. However, after carefully reading the instructions and watching the online videos, I gave it a shot.
Starting with a clean face, I applied a thin layer of gel primer. I moved the device along my jawline, cheeks and other area as instructed on one side of my face and did see noticeable results right away. My skin felt tighter and its appearance, more youthful. The device glided smoothly across my skin and as for the “microcurrents,” I didn’t feel a thing. The process takes just 10 minutes and can be done five days a week for 60 days to start, then two to three days a week to maintain.

Kids (and adults too) will agree that food just tastes better when it’s shaped like something cute.
Each meal idea is an edible work of art and is easy to pull off as most ingredients are already in your kitchen. They cover all meals of the day, emphasizing the importance of hitting all the food groups and colors of the rainbow.
Funny Food Made Easy is a great book to inspire cooks of all ages and a perfect activity for birthday parties.

Everyone loves getting packages in the mail, and when they’re filled with clothes … JACKPOT! NYC-based kidpik is a box service just for girls sizes 4 to 14. Unlike other box services, there are no subscription or membership fees and customers pay for what they keep and return the rest, at no charge. Choose a one-time trial box, one box per season (four per year) or two boxes per season (eight per year).
Signing up is easy. Girls log on to kidpik.com and create their profile, which helps them define their style … or styles. Then the kidpik stylists get to work choosing the right pieces for their fashionistas. From casual to glam, and everything in between, there are items to match everyone’s style.
My daughter enjoyed the sign up process and when her package arrived in the mail, about four weeks later, it was so much fun to see what was handpicked for her. The box was filled with fun accessories, tops, shoes and a dress – all great quality and a perfect fit. Each package contains five to seven pieces, including tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes, and accessories and costs $75 on average.
kidpik.com, girl’s sizes 4 to 14, prices vary, but average about $75 per box.
